Whipped Cream "Mummy" Cups Halloween Treats

I like when things are fun, yet easy...... don't you????

And when I say easy, I mean super easy. Again, who doesn't right???

With the upcoming Halloween season and all it's fun, flair and such, this holiday in particular offers so many opportunities for many easy AND fun treats.




These were ridiculously easy to make, can be created into a million and one (well maybe NOT that many) different things and are in one word....

Yummy!

This is what you will need....
  • 2 oz. Plastic Shooter cups ( I found mine in the dollar store) 
  • Black permanent marker OR a paint marker
  • Heavy cream
  • Vanilla extract
  • Your choice of sweetener
  • Sprinkles if you like (But who doesn't like sprinkles???)
I used a black sharpie marker to draw on the faces, but I think that a paint type of marker pen might even work better. All that was involved was a few squiggly lines, some circles for eyes, and a zig zag line for the mouth, so even if you don't have a lot of artistic ability, this is STILL a fun little treat that anyone can do.



You can even doodle a less menacing Mummy.....and make him almost friendly :)


With the faces drawn, get started on your whipped cream. I make my own whipped cream, because it's really easy and I love the taste, as do my kids. But if necessary you can always buy a can of ready made whipped cream and squirt it into the cups. You can really use anything, pudding, ice cream...I don't think I need to list anymore, because you get the idea.

To make whipped cream, just pour heavy cream into a bowl, add some vanilla extract and some sweetener. I don't measure anything, I just do it by taste. So test it and if it tastes good, whip it up. I use a hand mixer, but you can whip it up by hand as well....so easy.


To fill the cups, I just transferred the whipped cream into a piping bag, if you don't have one of those handy, just use a plastic baggie and cut the corner off. When filling the cups swirl the whipped cream into the cup, so it gets a bit of dimension as it is layered.


Easy right!!!!


At first I just left them plain, because I don't know any mummy's with colored hair or anything. But then I retracted that though, because I don't know any Mummy's period......


So I took my artistic license and added a drop of color with sprinkles, because sprinkles makes little treats like this more appealing and fun.


These super easy treats, were actually spawned from another idea......


Which were made similar to the Mummy's with the exception that I used tinted green pudding as the base. Her hair is whipped cream tinted black....but this is what my youngest looked like after she ate one.....


As I started out I mentioned I like easy and fun but NEAT is in my top ten of preferences as well...so we went with the nice clean Mummy with orange sprinkles and they were just as satisfied!!


As you can see the possibilities are endless with these. With a little imagination, food coloring  whipped cream and/or pudding you can create anything from the Bride of Frankenstein to zombies, Dracula, ghosts to Mummy's!

A simple easy treat that can dress up at any type of Halloween party or serve just because!

BOOtiful Mini Ghost High Hat Cupcake for Halloween

Before I start on the post I wanted to share quickly that there are ONLY 23 days left 'till my little one makes his grand entrance into the world sooooooo excited !!!

Last year I had so many ideas and plans of the many different creations I was going to make for Halloween. But as it goes I just never found the time to sort through the ideas that overflowed within my mind.

With one exception....Hi Hat cupcakes.



Ever since I first saw them...I became obsessed with them.

I've tried my hand at a few different versions. Beginning with a recipe Martha Stewart shared on her website; which I liked, but personally found the filling entirely too sweet. I also tried out the a version from the King Arthur site, which definitely preferred over the MS version.

But I still felt as though there could be something better used for the inner filling.

Flash forward to my introduction to Swiss Meringue Butter Cream a few months back and my new love affair with it. I have heard of it for some time, but just haven't had a chance or a reason to make it and so when I did, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I have deprived myself of such deliciousness for so long.

It's that good....the end.


So when I decided to try my hand at re-creating the mini Hi Hat ghost cupcakes for the Halloween season, I though immediately of using a Swiss Meringue Butter Cream for the filling. But not jut any Swiss Meringue Butter Cream..........

PEANUT BUTTER Swiss Meringue Butter Cream.

You. Will. Die.

To make these Hi Hats this what you will need.......
  • Cupcakes (miniature)
  • White chocolate candy melts
  • Chocolate candy melts
  • Toothpicks or food safe paintbrush
  • Piping bags or a large plastic food bag with the corner cut off
  • Time and patience

Once you have everything prepared,  you can get started making these adorable Halloween treats!


To get started, begin piping the Swiss Meringue Butter Cream onto the Cupcakes. You can use a piping bag with a large round tip or do like I did and just cut a decent sized opening in the decorating bag, in order to pipe the billowy, swirls of delectable deliciousness upon the cupcakes. To me the end result looks similar to soft serve ice cream.


With the Swiss meringue butter cream piped onto the cupcakes, put the in the freezer to set up for about 10 minutes or so. You want them to be able to hold their shape when they are dipped into the warm melted chocolate, so you want the frosting to be firm enough.

In the meantime get your white chocolate to the proper consistency,  to do this I add in about a tbsp. of oil to thin out the chocolate before melting it in the microwave.


Do not heat the chocolate up for to long or too quick. I typically use a glass bowl which radiates the heat even after you remove it from the microwave. I stop heating it before it is all melted and mix the heck out of it until I get the consistency I need. This ensures that it doesn't overheat or get too clumpy and the end result is smooth  chocolate ready to be dipped into.


When the butter cream has set up on the cupcakes, it's time to start dipping them. I transferred the melted chocolate into a solo type of plastic drinking cup, which offers a nice depth and makes it easier to dip the cupcake.


So grab your cupcake and DIP!!!


I actually twisted the cupcake going in and twisted it the opposite way when taking it out...


Let the excess drip for a second and turn right side up! So cool!! Just be sure to not dip it so deep that the chocolate covers the cupcake wrapper or it becomes a serious pain to peel away the wrapper


At this point they will be a bit blobby looking, but don't worry that will work out after you add the ghost face. Dip them all and once the coating has set, get your chocolate melted in order to add the face.


Using a food safe paintbrush or even a tooth pick dab on some chocolate for the eye and the mouth....


Do this for all of them.......


BOOtiful job!!!!


You can also dip these in regular chocolate for a chocolate peanut buttery mix of heaven on earth.

Halloween Gummi Pops {Homemade}

Guess what it's only September!!

But I've got Halloween on my mind.

Too many people posting too many wonderful projects to make for the upcoming holiday, so feeling the digital peer pressure that comes about with writing  blog, I also made a few things that I'll be sharing in the upcoming weeks with you all.

But with that out of the way I want to tell you that my daughter is three and adores YouTube.....

I know huge parenting fail on my part, but she amuses me with what she chooses to watch and how she finds some of the stuff that she does. She happens to be a die hard Tom & Jerry fanatic, which I like and approve of.

Reason being it forces her to "think' about what is actually transpiring within the cartoon, instead of being led by a story line of dialogue.

That said,  I also grew up watching Tom & Jerry and I loved it too :)



But weirdly enough, she ALSO loves cooking shows, and one in particular about making homemade gummi bears.

I'm at a complete and total loss at how she found it, but she watched it over and over and over again, 'til it finally peaked my interest enough (after driving me nuts listening to it a hundred million times) and I decided to make them with her.

She LOVED them and asks to make them ALL THE TIME!

Seriously, all the time! So I came up with these for the Halloween season.


They can make great little gifts for a Halloween party or something to just give out to friends or to feed to your kids :)

This is what you will need.....

1/3 cup of water
2 package of 1/4 oz. gelatin (unflavored)
1 package 3oz. flavored gelatin (flavor/color depends on the type  mold you use.)
Candy mold (I bought mine at a local craft store)
Lolly pop sticks
Paper straws..if you have them and want to use them to go over the sticks.
Corn starch

Fill a pot with 1/3 cup of water and sprinkle unflavored gelatin and flavored gelatin into water, let sit on the counter for about 10 minutes.


Transfer pot to the stove and cook on medium heat on the stove for about 3-5 minutes, until all of the gelatin has dissolved.


I let it cool for a minute and then I poured the mixture into a measuring cup with a spout, so it would be easier to pour into the mold. Insert sticks into the mold.



Pour mixture into the mold.



Don't overfill...oooopppps.


Let it sit out on the counter for about 20 minutes, until set and dust the back of the mold with cornstarch to off set the stickiness. Peel out of the mold.


How adorable!!


You can use any mold you can find, they tend to carry them in local crafts stores.



You can use any flavor/color combo of gelatin you like to make these fun and easy treats. Let your imagination be your guide!!

Back To School Labels {{FREE PRINTABLE}}

Just in case your wondering......

There are 35 days left until my baby boy arrives!

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and time has seemed to drag on and on, but that is what seems to happen with time and the waiting process :)



But now, as I enter the last few weeks, I feel as though I am running out of time! There seems to be so much I still have to do, but mentally/emotionally it feels as though there is just not enough time to get all the things I want done.

Those "things" I am referring to are mostly cleaning and organizing. But those are ALWAYS at the top of my to do list. If seems as though as soon as I get a system down after countless hours organizing and cleaning, my two little ones come and unravel all that I do, all the while looking so cute doing it.

So in my mind I have decided that I will break down the last few remaining weeks into chunks of manageable tasks. I figure week by week I can focus on one room and organize what I feel needs to be done.

Truth be told, I am super uncomfortable and doing certain things that once required no thought, now require more brain power and ingenuity. 

Since I basically cut off my oxygen supply when I bend down to pick toys, shoes, clothes (INSERT ITEM HERE). Anything that needs to be pick off the floor requires a special grabbing tool my Father and I have nicknamed "The Nifty Nabber" I seriously have no idea how I would get items off the floor without it.



Ridiculous I know! So as I mentioned above...cleaning and organizing has become more "challenging"

But onto more fun stuff.... sticker Labels.

These are great for labeling anything from notebook to lunch bags and anything else you can think of in-between. And as you can see from my own little one....

Kids love stickers!! Mind you these are being used for something entirely different, but you get the idea :)


I made a few different versions, because I know everyone has there own style!

To follow up from last weeks post with the First Day of School Printable Signs; I made labels with the same colorful bunting style.

These are a smaller version of the label, the actual label size is 2-5/8 x1 and print out 30 per sheet. Enough to label over a months worth of lunches!! It is Avery label 5160. You can purchase them at any local crafts store or office supply store. We use them for everything!!!


 And because they are so colorful and fun I also made a larger version of the label. Avery label 5163. They measure out to be 4x2 and print out 10 labels per sheet.


Now because I know not everyone "loves" the cutsey stuff I also made some less cuter..more edgier stuff.

Does that even make sense?????

Skulls...These are also made in both the larger and smaller versions to print !


And even better than that is I also made them in PINK!!
