Darth Cupcakes

Star Wars is sort of a big deal in my house. Well, I believe it's a big deal in a lot of people homes. Almost everyone I know can identify with one character or another on some level. But I digress, a friend had asked me to make these for her nephew, who happens to be a big, big, BIG fan of Star Wars.

I can never turn down a kid with a love of Star Wars, so I came up with these Cupcakes for his birthday...

They were super difficult to do, in that he is ummmmm, all black. So at the very least it was a challenge of sorts to figure out how to make an accurate representation of him, in other shades besides black.

It's a standard yellow cupcake with dark chocolate frosting, dusted in black sanding sugar....think deep dark space, stars, warp speed, battles between good and evil :)

On the top of each cupcake is a sugar topper that I made using royal icing. I think overall they came out pretty good, given more time I believe I could have made them even better...but I'm sure I'll get another shot at them, being that my own nephew is a HUGE fan as well!

So who is YOUR favorite character...please feel free to share!! And may the force be with you on this hot summer Sunday!!!

Miniature Chocolate Covered Oreo's

No comments :
Well I like I mentioned earlier, I made a bunch of stuff for my daughter's first birthday party. And the best part of it all is that there wasn't a bite or a crumb left. On top of the hula girl cake and all the colorful cupcakes, I also made cake pops, chocolate dipped marshmallow pops and....

Miniature chocolate covered Oreo pops....

Heaven on a stick, I'm told. They all were a hit...but of course I didn't get any pictures of the marshmallow pops or cake pops. I'll be making them again soon, so I will post the pictures then. Just in case you want a closer look, here you go!

Mmmmmmm....... Yummy!!!! Till next time!!

Hula Girl Cake

No comments :
My youngest daughter celebrated her first birthday this weekend. I was going to make an assortment of hula girl cupcakes and was tossing around a few ideas with pineapples and palm trees. But when planning a huge bash, such as hers turned out to be, my focus was not on simply just cupcakes; but all the aspects of planning a party.

So in the end I decided to just make a hula girl cake.......

I also made an assorted bunch of vanilla and chocolate cupcakes quickly frosted in a variety of bright colors....

I also made a bunch of other delectable delights but I will focus on them in another post!!!

At the end of the party, there was not a crumb left of anything....I love that, because it means I did my job and I did it well!!!

Hula Girl Cupcakes

No comments :
As I mentioned in my previous post, my younger daughter will be celebrating her first birthday this upcoming week. And to honor this milestone....we're having a luau; a birthday Luau. So on my many list of things to do is a side note to come up with some sweets ideas for dessert, besides her cake.

It's hot here in NY, so I need to keep in mind how soft, mushy and really annoying icing and frosting is to work with and keep set in the heat. So I am trying to come up with ideas of other ways to decorate. In my travels I came across a cool picture of a silhouetted hula girl dancing herself away on top of a cupcake. ( You can see the original version here at  Hey Cupcake.)

None the less this is my first go....

Not the best picture quality, so my apologies to you, but you get the idea. All in all I think cutting her out is way too much work for a lot of cupcakes, so I may try to go for something a bit simpler, like a pineapple or palm tree...or maybe even both. So till I start experimenting again.........

Candy Flower Cupcakes

No comments :
My youngest daughter will be turning "1" next Saturday. My better half and I decided that since it's the middle of the summer and super hot that we would do a Hawaiian luau theme for her party. I've been tinkering with ideas of what type of "treats" to serve, besides her cake that could go along with the theme.

I was going to do the typical pineapples, palm trees and such...but thought that I might give it a go with decorating with candy....it's only a start and I'm not even sure if it's the direction I want to go in, but here are the beginnings of the cupcakes....

I used what I had around, which was basically gumdrops, skittles, tic-tacs and icing. When I look at them they give off a fruity feeling. (I know that's not really a feeling)  But this is the first of a few experiments in both miniature and regular sized cupcakes.

I like the color range that the skittles came in paired with the vibrancy of the tic-tacs..but I may be better off using jelly beans, which also offer a wide selection of colors.

But these are the first and will get better as my head thinks more and more and more :)

Miniature Raspberry Cupcakes

No comments :
It's raspberry season here on the Long Island.....or more locally  in my Mother's backyard. I have so many fond memories of when I was a little girl,  being smack dab in the middle of a raspberry bush, munching on their sweet deliciousness.  A memory "berried" deep in my mind that brings back the laid back essence of the summer time.

The simple appeal of them made me want to recreate them....They were super duper time consuming all those little berry parts certainly take a while.

But it's comforting to know I can recreate them if I ever needed them in a hurry if they were out of season.

Miniature Sunflowers

1 comment :
I love, love, love flowers, so one thing that is a constant is my representation of them....on cupcakes and such. My Mother has a pot of teddy bear sunflowers growing in her backyard that I have been obsessing over as of late; I finally broke down and made them tonight.

Decorating cupcake is something I thoroughly enjoy doing, but I adore decorating miniature cupcakes, there is just something so appealing to me about anything that is well, miniature. Especially things of a sweet and delicious nature, such as cupcakes and if you ask me I think they came out pretty sweet :)

Well, I'm adding this part in after the fact.....I kept thinking how the cupcakes just seemed incomplete and then I had one of the "ah ha" moments and added this little ladybug onto the cupcake.

It feels more complete this way.....as you can probably see by the shine on the frosting, it's getting hot and the frosting is getting soft...so enough of these little guys for now. Enjoy your day and stay cool!

Red, White and Beautiful

No comments :
Well, it's Friday July 1st, which means not only is it Friday, but it is also the beginning of a three day weekend.  The big occasion being the Fourth of July; which means family, friends, food, fun, sun and fireworks!

The family and I will be running around all weekend visiting a lot of people, so for the occasion I created some miniature red, white and blue vanilla cupcakes to tote along!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun filled weekend...

Happy Birthday America!!
